There aren’t many high impact economic events occurring this week. Monday and Friday have no high impact events, so if you have trade around the news, you’ll have a pretty open schedule to make trades. On Tuesday, June 23rd, the USD will move due to Existing Home Sales released by the National Association of Realtors. This news will be released at 14:00 (GMT). The forecast for this event is 4.82M. Wednesday June 24th has quite a few high impact news events occurring. The day will begin with the Confederation of British Industry’s Realized Sales. This event will occur at 10:00 (GMT). The forecasted amount for this event is -17. Amounts above 0 indicate high sales volumes, while amounts below 0 indicate low sales volumes. An actual amount greater than -17 should cause the GBP to strengthen. At 12:30 (GMT), the Core Durable Goods Orders released by the Census Bureau will cause the USD to move. The forecast for this event is -0.2%. An actual amount greater than -0.2% will cause the USD to strengthen, while an amount lesser than -0.2% will cause the USD to weaken. At 13:30 (GMT), the GBP will move due to the Inflation Report Hearings. During these hearings, if the Bank of England’s Governor and the Monetary Policy Committee appear hawkish about the economic outlook of the GBP, expect the GBP to strengthen. Volatility with the GBP is often experienced during his speeches. The Federal Open Market Committee will release its statement at 18:15 (GMT), affecting the USD. If the statement appears hawkish about the economic outlook of the USD, expect the USD to strengthen. Also occurring at this time is the Federal Funds Rate (also affecting the USD). This report is released 8 times each year with a very high percentage of equal actual and forecasted amounts. The forecasted amount for this event is <0.25%. The final event occurring on Wednesday is Statistic New Zealand’s Current Account. This event is occurring at 22:45 (GMT). The forecast for this event is -1.26B. If the actual amount is greater than this amount, expect the USD to weaken. At 14:00 (GMT), Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will testify on the acquisition of Merrill Lynch. If this event is perceived to be more hawkish, expect the USD to strengthen. If it’s perceived to be more dovish, expect the USD to weaken.
